Painting is an oil as a 20 x 20 inch piece of one of my famous subjects. The infamous Bird Girl has by now come alive. She has gone from being a mere statue that graced the cover of John Berendt’s book Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil to a girl holding bird seed bowls as if they are scales measuring good and evil. I am continuing to paint her in my own garden of good & evil and make her come alive.
Here is first picture. Paintings is not finished yet. But then they are never finished just abandoned! Who said that?
Will post it in my gallery, when finished.

Milk Thistles and Bees – Medicinal Plants
12 inches by 9 inches Watercolor & Ink on Watercolor Paper
Frame and Mat not included.
Medicinal plants is something I have been studying and have a great interest in my whole life. This was instilled in me by my grandmother. Healing plants are all over the world, most people just don’t realize it. So I never refer to them as weeds.
The medicinal power of Milk Thistle is proven. I also think it is a very beautiful plant and it attracts bees.
I find it sad that many large wild meadows disappear, so I was happy to see a nearby community called Serenbe Georgia, creating and preserving natural places. On my next trip I will have to explore the wildflower meadow and linger there for a while.
You can also see a video of this with me talking about art and this particular herb.

How I create my watercolor & ink paintings: “I first do most of the ink work. I do not pre draw anything. I go straight to work with various nib sizes and dipping ink. The objective is to be loose and painterly. After establishing the ink lines I use watercolor to create shadow and light and vibrant colors, I work in layers. There is no erasing whatsoever, so everything even inks droplets that may fall are part of the art. Incidentals like ink drops are some of my favorite parts. Finally I add more ink lines to enhance certain areas in the painting. I then sign in ink and voila!”

This is how it goes sometimes. I start out with an idea a place, a scene in my head and then I begin my painting.
Most of the time I sketch out what I see in my minds eye. The tree is over there, the time of day suggests the light. Is it dawn, is it sunset, is it foggy and so on. Are there animals in the scene? Where are they?
Are there people, most of the time not. Not in my paintings. I like to be the invisible observer of places when there is nobody there. At least not in visible form, in spirit we are all everywhere at all times. Everything and everybody is connected.
That old saying “If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound”? comes to mind.
So in my paintings of the wetlands, the Okefenokee, the Florida Suwanee river, Savannah Bird Girl, the trees you will almost always find life, just not physical people.
In my latest piece I was inspired by the “Pink April Moon”. In case you missed it. Yes the moon was pink this past April 11th, 2017
This full moon was furthest from the earth and the moon was in Libra. The pink moon also called Strawberry moon and a few other names, but I like Pink Moon and Strawberry Moon, it congers up positive feelings and even sweet tastes.
So in my “Garden of Good and Evil” the good prevails with the power of the pink moon radiating throughout the my painting.
The “Bird Girl” of Savannah a steadfast witness holding her bowls of seeds for the birds, this time most of them, were eaten by the songbirds.

I have been laying down some colors and it needs to dry before I continue later today.
Here are some pictures. The colors I am working with are
Williamsburg: Cadmium Red Medium, Hazy Blue, German Earth, Cobalt Yellow, Cobalt Teal, Cobalt Turquoise, French Terra Verte, Provence Violet, Anise, and of course Titanium White from Blick.
I am also filming but it will take some doing to get it all together and uploaded since my computer isn’t handling that much data too well. So in order to stay focused on the painting and not get sidetracked with video tech issues, I won’t post video until the commission is completed. I’ll post more pictures.
So here is the sketch for the 2nd painting. I decided to put two hummingbirds into this one. There are poppy heads in it and some lavender.
I darkened the photo a bit. The sketch is very light on teh paper and did not show well. So to show it better and had to darken it.
Happy to announce that my oil on paper sold a couple of days ago.
Wonderful collector from Orlando snapped it up during my Spring sale.
She also asked me to paint a sister piece that will hang next to it.
It will be a 18 inch wide and 24 inch tall oil painting on paper.
I am totally excited to begin. I decided to purchase a few extra tubes of Williamsburg paint since that is the type of paint I used to the first one.
I prefer Williamsburg to almost any other paint but it is expense. Well you really get what you pay for.
I ordered them Wednesday and had them shipped overnight express so they just arrived. Here is a picture of the new German Earth, Cadmium red medium, French Terra Verte, and Cobalt Turquoise Greenish.
Some of my older, some almost empty tubes of Williamsburg paint.
Check out the Williamsburg website for more information on this excellent paint.
They don’t pay me or give me any discount for saying that!
So today is my promotions day and tomorrow I am going to develop the new painting.
I had a wonderful conversation with my client that gave me a good idea what she likes and she is great in that she gives me all the creative freedom I need to make the new painting a success. So I’ll go for a painting that will harmonize with the one she bought but be different at the same time.
This is the one she bought.
Here is me painting it. Watch and like my channel. Subscribe to my channel on youtube, for new videos.
