Georgia Summer can be a heatstroke in the making.
About two weeks ago I was rudely reminded why I really don’t like to live in a hot climate (unless it’s right by the ocean of course)
My air-conditioner about 28 years old started to not cool and freeze up all the time. Eventually air conditioning man put some more coolant in it, no dice. Still not cooling. Air condition man comes back after a few phone calls and puts in more coolant, plus unit cleaning. Still not cooling.
So far I paid 800 dollars and still have no air conditioning. It puffs out lukewarm air. So now the verdict is “Need a new Unit” will cost around 5 grand. Just about now I want to crawl in to a hole. Make it a cave a real cool one. I miss the temperate German summers that I remember.
Brick houses make for cooler dwellings too. Most houses in Germany are brick, cooler. Grandma used to close the shutters when it was hotter. No shutters on my rickety house, so the afternoon sun bakes the house.
Someone told me the weather in Berkeley California is like that in Germany, mostly, temperate. But Blairsville Ga is about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of Georgia too. Maybe I have to escape in to the mountains in summer, cats in tow.
But don’t they say the grass is always greener on the other side. I keep reminding myself of that, while looking forward to this huge cost that wasn’t in my budget. I hate Georgia Summers. Yesterday we had 106 degrees the next two weeks will be cooler “ONLY IN THE MID NINETIES” My house is an oven. Ice packs tied to my body have become my best friends.
Have I mentioned I hate Georgia Summers. I think I have.
If you haven’t seen my latest original paintings I hope you will take a look at them, any purchase will help me pay for this new expense. You’re helping a self-supporting artist.
