This painting is one you have to see in person to appreciate the impressionist and van Gogh inspired knife work.

Ravens have interested me ever since I saw my grandmothers family crest hanging on her wall in Germany. her maiden name was "Wallrabenstein" raben meaning Ravens. Atop of the castle in the crest were three ravens. It was an interesting thing but for a child fascinating for sure. She told me some stories about her ancestry.

In fall, ravens seem to congregate in fields and anywhere were seeds can be found. So it's no surprise to find them picking on dying sunflower heads. The tasty seeds are healthy morsels for sure.

Claude Monet (1840-1926)

We want to remember Claude Monet today for his contribution to the French Impressionist painting movement!

Claude Monet is undisputed one of the greatest painters of the impressionist era. Monet is the founder of the French Impressionist painting movement and a consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement’s philosophy. Impressionism is expressing one’s perceptions of nature.

Did you know that his name was actually Oscar Claude Monet?

His father was also named Claude so people called him Oscar to set them apart.

It’s said that Claude Monet’s father hated creativity, he wanted Claude to enter business rather than become an Artist.

Sadly Claude’s mother died at an early age, she was very supportive of the young blossoming artist. After her death he lived with his aunt, who also supported his artistic developments. I gleaned these morsels of Monet’s life from this website https://apecsec.org/14-interesting-facts-about-claude-monet/

There is a certain beauty in paint tubes. Especially used ones. Each one is different. I am a messy artist when it comes to my paint tubes. It’s not a virtue, I know. I don’t wipe the tops before closing.
I get attached to these tubes. Sometimes I keep them around even after they are spend. Here are a few of the brands I use. Some of them are kinda expensive for me.  But I love the quality so I buy them in hopes that buyers will appreciate the quality materials I use. Pigments are much richer and lighfast as well.

Moonlight In The Garden of good and Evil

Work In Progress 20 x 20 inch Moonlight in The Garden of good & Evil with Savannah Bird Girl

Painting is an oil as a  20 x 20 inch piece of one of my famous subjects. The infamous Bird Girl has by now come alive. She has gone from being a mere statue that graced the cover of John Berendt’s book Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil to a girl holding bird seed bowls as if they are scales measuring good and evil. I am continuing to paint her in my own garden of good & evil and make her come alive.

I prepared the canvas with my custom gesso made of plaster of paris, gel and marble dust.

Here is first picture. Paintings is not finished yet. But then they are never finished just abandoned! Who said that?

Savannah Bird Girl pink Moon Impressionist oil painting by Ginette Callaway

Strawberry Moon. My latest larger oil painting turned out just as I envisioned.

This is how it goes sometimes. I start out with an idea a place, a scene in my head and then I begin my painting.

Most of the time I sketch out what I see in my minds eye. The tree is over there, the time of day suggests the light. Is it dawn, is it sunset, is it foggy and so on. Are there animals in the scene? Where are they?

Are there people, most of the time not. Not in my paintings. I like to be the invisible observer of places when there is nobody there. At least not in visible form, in spirit we are all everywhere at all times. Everything and everybody is connected.

That old saying “If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound”? comes to mind.

So in my paintings of the wetlands, the Okefenokee, the Florida Suwanee river, Savannah Bird Girl, the trees you will almost always find life, just not physical people.

In my latest piece I was inspired by the “Pink April Moon”. In case you missed it. Yes the moon was pink this past April 11th, 2017
This full moon was furthest from the earth and the moon was in Libra. The pink moon also called Strawberry moon and a few other names, but I like Pink Moon and Strawberry Moon, it congers up positive feelings and even sweet tastes.

So in my “Garden of Good and Evil” the good prevails with the power of the pink moon radiating throughout the my painting.
The “Bird Girl” of Savannah a steadfast witness holding her bowls of seeds for the birds, this time most of them, were eaten by the songbirds.
