Description
Chrysanthemums and Lilacs Still Life, painted with brush and palette knife with bold strong strokes in fabulous summer colors. The canvas I chose for this is a rugged linen. In one of the detail images you can see the weave of the linen. It’s so fitting for impressionist oil painting work.
Flowers were a staple part of all the gardens in my family as I was growing up. We always had stunning bouquets and lilac’s aroma fills the rooms. I always looked forward to visiting my grand parents when I was living and working in Frankfurt Germany. They lived in the small town I spend much of my youths and on my visits, I got to enjoy the truly giant at least 10 feet tall bushy lilacs.
Of course there were also Chrysanthemums and irises and so many other flowers in the garden. It was my grand father who had a green thumb. I learned a lot from him about gardening. He was in many ways an impressionist artist, he did not create oil paintings but he knew colors and textures. His artistic instincts knew how to arrange plantings and varieties to achieve color effects and texture changes all year. His roses that climbed the sunny side of the stucco wall of the house, were unmatched.
I hope this still life impressionist oil painting is anything but still. I hope it vibrates for you as much as it does for me. I can promise you the painting will impress in person. Much of the texture is impossible to show on a computer monitor.
