I bring you a sunny landscape painting pollard trees. Painted in watercolors and gouache. My palette is bright injecting touches of pastel tone.

What are pollard trees? Trees that have been radically cropped. A practice to cut off all of the canopy, making the trees look done for. But these trees start making new branches and come back stronger, that is the common argument. Well I am not an arborist so I don’t know. However I remember the look of pollarded trees. They are all over France and Germany where I lived in my youth. Painting pollard trees is fun, especially for me since I love gnarly trees.

“in the last year and a half or so I have felt like I am pollarded. My branching cut off, my personality that used to resemble a rich lush green canopy, gone.
If I were a tree, a willow, birch, oak I definitely felt like a pollard. But now it’s renewal time. I am sprouting new branches, fresh growths. Just wait when my canopy is back I will be more glorious then before!” ~Ginette
