Why is the battery in Charleston called the battery? The Battery serves as the landmark, which is a defensive seawall & a boulevard in Charleston, SC. Named after the coastal defense civil-war artillery “Battery,” this place stretches through the Charleston peninsula lower shores. Feb 21, 2020
I can attest to the fact that walking The Battery and most of Charleston is a real pleasure, made for walking. Been to Charleston many times and will hopefully visit soon again. There is beautiful landscaping Oleander Bushes palm tress all manicured and exuding Southern Charm. I LOVE Charleston

Can you walk the Battery in Charleston?Walking along the Battery is great for visitors and locals, with a view of Fort Sumter in the distance. It's also partially bounded by gracious Charlestonian homes of another era. It's a great place to spend some time and we always make a point to go there when in Charleston.
