Red Poppies Provence Watercolor Painting
Watercolor Painting Floral Collection
This is an original painting size 12 high by 18 wide on 140 lb watercolor paper.
My watercolor paintings are colorful and whimsical. This poppies Provence watercolor painting came up from my imagination and memories and some photo references. Therefore my floral paintings are something other than a botanical depiction, they are lovely and lively, infused with my own quirkiness! I often get the question: “How do you keep your watercolors so vibrant?” the answer is layers and not muddying them up and clean brushes!
Poppies hold various meaning in different cultures, throughout history. In Europe the red poppy is tied to remembrance of WWI & WWII fallen soldiers. Somme in northern France has huge fields of red poppies. In the east the red poppy is a symbol of Love and Success. Vincent Van Gogh who inspires me greatly is famous for his sunflowers, but he painted many flower still life pieces. While in Paris friends send him bouquets of flowers to paint, including red poppies. However, I have to say, it is hard to imagine that red poppies would hold up well in transport, they are so delicate.
