Description

Paris la vie en rose a watercolor and ink impression of a slice of Paris as I remember it from my visits while I was living in Germany. This is a larger version of an earlier very similar piece I did and which has sold. The client originally wanted to buy this painting and had asked me to do this for her as a commission based on the smaller painting. Whoever when it was finished she did not like it because it did turn out different from the smaller one. So she bought the smaller painting and now this a 22 by 30 inch watercolors and ink, is available to whoever falls in love with it. Shipping is free within the US

La vie en rose means "life in pink" which is how I see Paris in my minds eye today. Pink really standing for seeing thinks better than they may be or living in love. I've had the experience of disappointment when I revisited places and found them changed, having lost their romance or beauty in my eyes.

In the case of Paris a few decades have past and I am certain it's not at all as it was in the 1970 when I took a few trips with friends and alone to this city of Romance. I really don't want to go back but I wanted to paint this  painting. Remembering the days of youth and elegance the fun and surprises that waited for me in Paris.
My memories of  la vie en rose.

In my early youth I listened to songs by Edith Piaf coming through the radio. My mother  hummed along with the tunes of French Radio. We were living in Alsace France at the time where I was born. At a very young age my mother took me to Paris for visits but I can't really remember much of it, other than what I have been told. Today, the music of Paris, the ladies and the charm and the fashion, are far away.  Here is Edith Piaf singing her chanson "La Vie En Rose" Watch the movie "The Last Time I Saw Paris" a favorite of mine. So romantic
