Description

Olive oil and sunflowers are part of Tuscan Life? In this watercolor and ink I wanted to express the salt of the earth of Tuscany and the hidden romance?

When Alexa came to Tuscany it was only going to be for a vacation. Her parents visit almost every year but Alexa usually stays at home in Texas where she has many friends and a full life. But this time Alexa wanted to see Tuscany for herself, before she goes to college. This time she will see the Sunflower fields and taste the Tuscan food, that her parents always endlessly talk about. As so many young people, she hasn’t decided yet what she wants to do, which annoys her parents, a visit to Tuscany will be a break from the usual routine. Maybe give her time and perspective to find herself.  Bill and Caroline, Alexa’s parents will stay at their good friend’s place, a small hillside winery run by the Moretti’s. The Moretti family has grown grapes and produced one of the finest red wines in the region for almost 300 years. The name Moretti here demands respect.

As so many Italian families the Moretti family is large and almost everyone will soon be at the Moretti estate to celebrate the 96 birthday of the matriarch Ariana Moretti.

Alexa wakes up, blinded by the bright Tuscan sun coming through the curtains. slightly diffused. This is her first day and after breakfast she will meet the family… to be continued!

Tuscan life to me in my romanticized imagination, means sun, down to earth people and autumn fog hanging over fields and vineyards. Family friendly villages where generations mix old men meet at parks to talk among themselves on  Sundays after church. Food that includes fresh Olive oil and sunflowers because Tuscan summers are flower filled. Fields of sunflowers are a common sight.
