Savannah Bird Girl pink Moon Impressionist oil painting by Ginette Callaway

Strawberry Moon. My latest larger oil painting turned out just as I envisioned.

This is how it goes sometimes. I start out with an idea a place, a scene in my head and then I begin my painting.

Most of the time I sketch out what I see in my minds eye. The tree is over there, the time of day suggests the light. Is it dawn, is it sunset, is it foggy and so on. Are there animals in the scene? Where are they?

Are there people, most of the time not. Not in my paintings. I like to be the invisible observer of places when there is nobody there. At least not in visible form, in spirit we are all everywhere at all times. Everything and everybody is connected.

That old saying “If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it, does it make a sound”? comes to mind.

So in my paintings of the wetlands, the Okefenokee, the Florida Suwanee river, Savannah Bird Girl, the trees you will almost always find life, just not physical people.

In my latest piece I was inspired by the “Pink April Moon”. In case you missed it. Yes the moon was pink this past April 11th, 2017
This full moon was furthest from the earth and the moon was in Libra. The pink moon also called Strawberry moon and a few other names, but I like Pink Moon and Strawberry Moon, it congers up positive feelings and even sweet tastes.

So in my “Garden of Good and Evil” the good prevails with the power of the pink moon radiating throughout the my painting.
The “Bird Girl” of Savannah a steadfast witness holding her bowls of seeds for the birds, this time most of them, were eaten by the songbirds.

A majority of the swamp is protected by the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Okefenokee Wilderness. The Okefenokee Swamp is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. The Okefenokee is the largest “blackwater” swamp in North America. The term Okefenokee in Native American is “land of trembling earth”. The swamp was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974

Heading South Oil Painting

Autumn Migration Birds and Panoramic Landscape Oil Painting

This is such a gorgeous painting in person. I painted this with so much oil paint. No fillers all good rich oil painting of the highest quality. I used brushes and palette knifes. The trees is what I remember from growing up in Alsace France. Same in Germany where I lived later. The story goes that during hard times and war people used to cut off just the new branches for firewood.

They left the trunk and tree alive so it could later made new shoots and more fire wood. This is why these trees look like they do. You see them occasionally in VanGogh’s paintings as well.
