Description

Food Art Indian Corn is not just a decoration. I have to admit I had no idea how many varieties of corn are available to grow and eat. I can not recall ever eating corn or seeing Indian Corn in Germany, the only corn that I knew of was feed for livestock.

When I moved to the US I quickly learned that corn was a staple. especially yellow corn. In fall colorful corn ears pop up in stores every fall.
I used to think, it was for just decoration, but then I also learned that what is called Indian Corn aka Flint, is not just a decoration.

Indian Corn can be ground into flour and used as popcorn, just like yellow corn. Corn is also called Maiz and in Germany it’s called Mais which sounds and spells almost the same.
“Corn is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that helps protect your cells from damage and wards off diseases like cancer and heart disease. Yellow corn is a good source of the carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin, which are good for eye health and help prevent the lens damage that leads to cataracts.” Source

This colorful wonderful corn allowed me to use the deep rich warm palette. A variety of red tone like Crimson Lake, of course there must be Magenta  as well as Burnt & Raw Umber on the earth tones palette, additionally to Prussian blue mixed with other tones and neutrals.
